one year on...

One year on since Fiona's passing away suddenly, her legacy is beginning to take shape in many forms.
Rose and Elizabeth have started senior school solely through the money this challenge has raised. We have pledged to continue their education for their full four years of schooling and although we are still short of our target donations and small fundraising events are slowly helping us reach the target and in time we will ensure this is possible for the girls.
Since a visit made by Kate (Jalia's founder), over the christmas period, by we have received hand written cards from each of the girls thanking everyone who has helped make this possible, stating just what it means for them to be educated, along with what they hope to achieve with their education.
Rose hopes to become a Lawyer, whilst Elizabeth is aiming to be a doctor.

In the last week the Brazilian Embassy organised and ran a Swimathon to raise funds for Jalia and the continued support for the education of young females. They too have a donations page and a short film made by her colleagues and friends in Brasilia.

Fundraising is still continuing through Simons TMB virgin page too at Simon Conroys TMB in 33HRS!

All that remains for us to say is THANK YOU for all you have given so far, and lets hope Fiona's Legacy continues to grow in supporting Jalia educate Kenyan girls...

Latest updates from Jalia

Elizabeth and Rose
In January 2014 Jalia began supporting two very special girls. Elizabeth and Rose, both 13, were the top two pupils at the Kiangoma Primary School in Nyeri County, Central Kenya. Although both girls did incredibly well at school, due to their family circumstances they were not sure how they would be able to go to high school. These girls have ambitions - Elizabeth would like to be a doctor and Rose would like to be a lawyer. Secondary education is not free in Kenya and many able children miss out because their families cannot afford the fees.
Jalia's friends in Kenya put us in touch with the girls and we went to visit them and their mothers in January 2014. We will know by the end of January which secondary schools they will be attending to help them work towards those ambitions.
Jalia has promised to fund both girls through all four years of their secondary education. This has all been made possible thanks to the amazing fundraising efforts of Simon Conroy and his family and friends. They raised money as a memorial to Simon's sister-in-law Fiona, an educated and inspiring Kenyan woman who sadly passed away in 2013. To date they have raised £4.5k which we have ring-fenced specifically for Elizabeth and Rose to help them to thrive as strong, educated Kenyan women in Fiona's memory.
